Proactive news highlights - Tungsten Corp, StatPro, Atlantis Resources, Oracle Coalfields and Summit Therapeutics

Volkswagen aside, there was plenty of other news to chew over on Thursday. Here's a selection of highlights.

Volkswagen aside, there was plenty of other news for traders to chew over on Thursday. Here's a selection of highlights.

Tungsten Corp (LON:TUNG), whose electronic invoicing platform is gaining traction with a number of the world’s biggest companies, gave an upbeat assessment of trading trends.

In a statement ahead of the annual meeting later Thursday, chief executive Richard Hurwitz revealed revenues were up 20% year on year in the first four months of the financial year.

He also told investors two new buyers had contracted to join the Tungsten Network in the period and six existing buyers agreed contract renewals, at an average expected fee increase of 22%.

Meanwhile, in oil, the drill bit has now begun turning on Toronto-listed Primeline Energy’s (CVE:PEH) new exploration well offshore China.

The well, LS23-1-1, aims to tap into resources close to the company’s production facility for the LS36-1 gas field, the company said.

It is located in 81 metres of water, in the East China Sea, and it is planned to reach a depth of 2,688 metres.

Elsewhere, ANGLE’s (LON:AGL) Parsortix system for harvesting circulating tumour cells has been given a ringing endorsement by researchers at the Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) in London.

They assessed the device’s ability to pick up tell-tale signs of prostate cancer from blood samples and concluded Partsortix is superior in many ways to the current gold standard - antibody-based detection.

This new method of picking up the early signs of cancer has already been shown to be effective in ovarian and breast cancers.

Shares in ANGLE added 5.92% to 80.5p.

Sticking to the sector, broker Zeus Capital has come out with a bullish valuation of Motif Bio (LON:MTFB), which is developing a next-generation antibiotic that rapidly kills bacteria.

Zeus analyst Gary Waanders has set a net present value for Motif of £178mln, or 165p a share.

The shares, 20p when they floated on the junior market in April, are currently changing hands for 63.5p, valuing the business at £67mln.

Meanwhile, Life sciences group TyraTech (LON:TYR) said sales more than trebled in the first half of the year, although second half trading was lagging expectations.

The company, which develops natural insect and parasite control products, said sales rose 267% to US$3.3mln in the first half to June 30.

In mining, Golden Saint Resources (LON:GSR) said the onsite visit of the newly appointed technical consultants, Rock Forage, to Sierra Leone has been completed with a report due shortly.

Software house StatPro (LON:SOG) is perfectly placed to capitalise on the changing demands of an asset manager, according to City broker Panmure Gordon.

The landscape for asset managers has changed, Panmure said, due to the competitive threat from new technology-based entrants.

StatPro’s analytic technology offers a cloud-based analytics program, bringing performance, risk, compliance and other market data together on a single platform.

It offers “a rich customer experience, drill down analytics, in a scalable cloud offer available to all market participants,” Panmure said.

Strat Aero (LON:AERO), Europe's only listed drone services firm, urged shareholders to be "patient" as it waits for further investment to grow its unmanned aerial vehicle business.

Posting half year results today, it reported a widened pre-tax loss in the six months to June 30 and said revenues in the period were "disappointing", coming in at US$57,441 compared with US$630,685 for the year to end 2014.

"...the board is confident that, in time, Strat Aero has the potential to become a significant international player in this exciting new industry," it said.

But it added: "We do caution shareholders to be patient, as with any developing marketplace, clients are slow to invest and significant investment in cash and time is needed to complete exhaustive demonstration projects, which can take anything from six months to two years to complete."

Elsewhere, Oracle Coalfields (LON:ORCP) is negotiating the details of engineering contracts for its 600 MW mine-mouth power plant project in Pakistan, with talks also now underway on debt financing, it said in interims today.

Oracle aims to sign an EPC term sheet with contractor SEPCO and marking agreement on a number of key issues ahead of the full EPC contracts.

Atlantis Resources (LON:ARL) has confirmed that operations to lay four subsea cables connecting its Scottish tidal-power project have been completed successfully.

At the MeyGen tidal project the cables have now been connected via individual bore holes to where four 1.5 megawatt (MW) turbines will be deployed next year.

The cables will connect to an onshore substation, from which the electricity will be fed into the grid.

Atlantis shares were unchanged at 42.5p.

Mexico-focused miner Arian Silver (LON:AGQ, TSXV:AGQ) unveiled provisional terms of a financing restructuring that provide it with a further US$10mln.

It means the US$16.45mln senior secured convertible loan note issued to Quintana AGQ in October last year, will firstly be increased by US$1.5 million, with additional amounts up to US$10 million being available.

Shares eased 1.33% to 9.25p.
