Proactive news highlights including Arian Silver, Keywords Studios, S&U, Clearstar, Goldplat...

There were a number of companies reporting interim results today...

Computer game development services provider Keywords Studios (LON:KWS) saw strong first-half growth, even without the contribution of recently acquired companies.

The company said it is on track to meet full-year expectations, as the summer months return to being the peak period for the industry after a couple of years when the cycle was distorted by the release of new games consoles in November 2013.

It was one of a host of companies reporting interim results today.

Elsewhere, impressive half-year results from niche specialist finance provider S & U (LON:SUS) received a one-off £50.5mln boost from the disposal of its Home Credit division.

Strong product and services revenue growth its latest half year validated its integrated model in the drug research business, Horizon Discovery (LON:HZD) said today.

Anglo Asian Mining (LON:AAZ) revealed improving financials in the first half thanks to robust gold production from the Gedabek mine in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, employee intelligence specialist ClearStar (LON:CLST) racked up another strong half as the need for organisations to check on the backgrounds of potential staff shows no sign of easing.

Porta Communications (LON:PTCM) generated cash for the first time in its latest half year as organic sales rose by 17% and underlying profits jumped by two-thirds.

In other news, speciality pharma group Clinigen (LON:CLIN) is expanding in Asia, Africa and Australasia (AAA) by buying Link Healthcare for up to £100mln, paying £44.5mln upfront.

It wasn’t the only deal made today, as Venn Life Sciences (LON:VENN) announced it plans to offer pharmaceutical firms a "one-stop shop" with its €6.5mln acquisition of Dutch drug consultancy Kinesis Pharma BV.

Away from M&A, Mexican metal miner Arian Silver Corporation (LON:AGQ, TSXV:AGQ) has taken a step towards securing up to US$10mln of extra funding.

Arian has signed a letter of intent to extend its US$16,452,343 senior secured convertible note with Quintana AGQ Holding Co by US$10mln.

In other financing news, Premier African Minerals (LON:PREM) received a £283,500 cash boost from a share purchase.

Weapons technology group Cohort (LON:CHRT) is close to arranging a new £25mln debt facility to fund the acquisition of Portuguese tech group EID.

Meanwhile, Mosman Oil & Gas (LON:MSMN) has secured a further £1.5mln towards the funding of its acquisition of STEP (the South Taranaki Energy Project).

Sticking with the oil sector, Europa Oil & Gas (LON:EOG) will retain 100% of its exploration licences offshore Ireland, after partner Kosmos decided to withdraw.

To mining – where Goldplat’s (LON:GDP) efforts to improve production and efficiency at its gold recovery operation in South Africa took another step forward today as the company announced the commissioning of a new mill in mid-September.

Elsewhere, Hummingbird Resources (LON:HUM) says its Yanfolila gold mine is a perfect project to bring into production in the current tricky market conditions.

Savannah Resources (LON:SAV) revealed it has identified new high grade copper mineralisation at the Aarja prospect, part of Block 4 in Oman.

Marble miner Fox Marble (LON:FOX) has won plaudits from Kosovo for its economic contribution to the Balkans country.

Also winning an award was Collagen Solutions (LON:COS), which has been awarded a Medical Research Scotland Ph.D. studentship, in partnership with the University of Strathclyde.

In other news, Big data software specialist Rosslyn Data Technologies (LON:RDT) has deployed a new self-service cloud-based data centre for fund management group Octopus Investments.

Meanwhile, Sphere Medical (LON:SPHR) said it is begun a “number of discussions” with potential partners that would help with the roll out of its breakthrough Proxima blood monitoring device.

Elsewhere, Sirius Minerals (LON:SXX, OTCQX:SRUXY) has received prequalification status from Infrastructure UK, a branch of the UK Treasury, for the second phase of its York Potash project.

Finally, Ali Mortazavi, drug developer Silence Therapeutics’ (LON:SLN) chief executive, has resumed his position following a compassionate leave of absence since the end of July.

Interim executive chairman Alastair Riddell has stepped down from the board to concentrate on his other business interests with Stephen Parker stepping up from a non-executive role to become non-exec chairman.
