ictoria Oil & Gas (LON:VOG) has won the title of small cap ‘Energy Company of the Year’

We start with LGO Energy (LON:LGO), which told investors that first half revenues more than doubled to £6.6mln as production in Trinidad increased significantly.

Oil sales during the six months, to June 30, amounted to 208,209 barrels net to LGO, which represents a 200% improvement from the comparative period of 2014.

In other oil news, Victoria Oil & Gas (LON:VOG) has won the title of small cap ‘Energy Company of the Year’ after its work in Cameroon was recognised by business magazine Petroleum Economist.

AIM-listed VOG has been one of a handful of firms to successfully monetise gas in sub-Sahara Africa by developing the Logbaba gas field in Douala, Cameroon.

UK Oil & Gas Investments (LON:UKOG), the leading stakeholder in the Horse Hill project near Gatwick Airport, has appointed Matt Cartwright as its new chief operating officer.

Sticking with the boardroom theme, Stamp and memorabilia specialist Stanley Gibbons (LON:SGI) said its corporate development director, John Byfield, will retire in 12 months’ time.

In mining news, the boss of Britain’s first new metal mine in more than 40 years says he hopes the project will kick-start a ‘wider renaissance’ of mining in the UK.

Drakelands, a £140mln tungsten mine on the fringes of Dartmoor, Devon, was officially opened yesterday by Wolf Minerals (LON:WLFE) and its chief, Russell Clark.

Meanwhile, Metals Exploration (LON:MTL) is raising new funds ahead of permitting at its Runruno gold mine in the Philippines.

According to Philippine law, final permits can only be issued following the completion of construction, said chairman Ian Holzberger.

Stratmin Global (LON:STGR) confirmed that the proposed funding deal with Bass Metals (ASX:BSM) is set to proceed after the would-be partner completed its due diligence of Stratmin’s Madagascar graphite operation.

In early September an agreement was made for Bass to acquire 25% of the Madagascar mine for £2mln. It valued the mine at £8mln, which was well above Stratmin’s £5.4mln overall market worth at the time.

In the science space, Rex Bionics (LON:REX) has received endorsement for its ground breaking technology from the law courts and the insurance industry.

Rex’s robot legs help the wheelchair-bound walk, though they are also being used in physiotherapy.

To pharma, where Constellation Healthcare (LON:CHT) took its spending for the week to a possible US$32mln as it unveiled the acquisition of Phoenix Health for up to US$14mln.

On Wednesday it agreed to shell out up to US$18mln for NorthStar Health.

In other news, Graphene specialist Haydale (LON:HAYD) has been handed nearly half a million pounds worth of government grants to work on series of research projects.

The string of studies, set to run over the next 18 months, include working on a low cost, self-cleaning graphene enhanced coating which could be used to clean and filter swimming pools and waste water.

Petroceltic International (LON:PCI) has said it will review allegations concerning its business in Bulgaria.

The review, which Petroceltic said was in accordance with the company’s external procedures, will be overseen by external counsel and further announcements will be made as appropriate, it said.

Finally, Newmark Security (LON:NWT) has landed a US$6mln deal to develop, manufacture and supply its high tech security product to a ‘major’ workforce management firm.

The ten-year contract, won by Newmark’s electronic division Grosvenor Technology, will see the company deliver one of its “next generation terminals”.
