Gem Diamonds was just one of many news items on a busy day in the small cap universe.

Orosur Mining (LON:OMI, TSE:OMI), the operator of the only producing gold mine in Uruguay, has delivered in line with production and cost guidance in its first quarter, it said.

The firm produced 12,471 ounces of the yellow metal in the three months to August 31 compared with 13,684 ounces in the same period last year.

It was one of many news items on a busy day in the small cap universe.

Noricum Gold (LON:NMG gave an upbeat assessment of prospects in its half year results, saying it was confident of future newsflow coming from the recent acquisition of a stake in the Bolnisi copper-gold Project in Georgia.

Meanwhile, Weatherly International (LON:WTI) upgraded its production forecast for the Tschudi copper mine in Namibia from 1,000 tonnes per month to 1,150 tonnes.

Horizonte Minerals (LON:HZM, TSX: HZM) has expanded its land holdings in the area surrounding its Araguaia development.

Elsewhere, Central Asia Metals (LON:CAML) produced 5,444 tonnes of copper from its Kounrad recycling facility in Kazakhstan during the first half of 2015.

Gem Diamonds (LON:GEMD) sold the second ‘exceptional’ white diamond recovered from the Letšeng project this year.

The 357 carat diamond was sold for US$19.3mln, at US$54,000 per carat, a new record for dollars to carat ratio from the project, and follows the sale of a 314 carat white diamond earlier this year.

From mining to energy, and Active Energy (LON:AEG), the timber and forestry group, is teaming up with a US firm to commercialise what it describes a “revolutionary” new manufacturing process that allows biomass to be burned in unconverted coal-fired power stations.

UK Oil & Gas Investments, (LON:UKOG) the firm operating the so-called ‘Gatwick Gusher’ at Horse Hill, has reported a more modest oil deposit at Markwells Wood down the road.

In other oil news, Record production and sales of palm oil helped Ivory Cost-based DekelOil (LON:DKL) almost treble interim revenues and come close to break even.

The group produced 21,836 (2014: 7,932) tonnes of crude palm oil and 3,733 (2014: 1,311) tonnes of kernels in the half year to June.

In the pharma space, life sciences group Abzena (LON:ABZA) said it acquiring San Diego-based contract development and manufacturing firm PacificGMP for an initial US$8.4mln.

The deal, which will be immediately earnings enhancing, will be funded mainly from the company’s cash resources.

Collagen Solutions (LON:COS) has acquired all the assets and related products of ChondroMimetic - an implant for treating small cartilage defects - which is estimated to have an addressable market of more than US$500mln.

Nanomedicine firm Midatech Pharma (LON:MTPH) reported an 800% increase in revenue in its latest half year and said the recently announced agreement with Ophthotech would underpin a significant amount of market forecasts for the full year figure.

Growing medical devices specialist Akers Biosciences (LON:AKR) has launched the first and only disposable ketone breath test, a device that will help it tap into the growing weight loss market.

To tech, and Software firm Kalibrate Technologies (LON:KLBT) unveiled a new exclusive partnership, which takes it into the realm of in-store pricing, as it reported an upsurge in revenue and profits in the year just gone.

The company already provides its technology in the fuel pricing and planning arenas but this deal means it can cover pricing capability end-to-end for fuel and the convenience retail industry - from forecourt to in-store and expands the firm's market size globally.

Meanwhile, Workforce management specialist ServicePower Technologies (LON:SVR) has released a new cloud-based system Nexus FS.

TabletTV provider Motive Television (LON:MTV) announced it is to make its app available for the recently announced Apple TV.

In other news, Seeing Machines (LON:SEE) has agreed to transfer the bulk of its DSS off-road fatigue monitoring business to US giant Caterpillar.

The two companies have been working together since 2013, but with this new agreement Caterpillar will take full responsibility for the manufacturing, marketing and sales of DSS.

Elsewhere, African low cost airline fastjet (LON:FJET) has appointed an experienced accountant as its new non-executive chairman.

Finally, Trinity Exploration & Production (LON:TRIN) agreed an extension to the repayment of its outstanding US$13mln debt with its lender until September 25.
