Dunelm reports sales and profit hike

The homewares retailer said bed linen and furniture proved popular with shoppers.

Dunelm (LON:DNLM) shone brightly as the homewares retailer reported higher yearly profit and sales thanks largely to a boost in curtain sales.

The roll-out of its Dunelm at Home service reinforced its strength as a curtains retailer, with made-to-measure curtains one of its fastest-growing departments, the company said.

Bed linen and furniture also proved popular with shoppers.

In the 53 weeks to 4 July, sales rose 12% to £835mln while pre-tax profit was almost 5% higher to £122.6mln, the slower improvement in profits reflected investment in its online offering.

Will Adderly, chief executive, said: “Customers continue to respond well to our specialist homewares offer and we have made strong progress in all elements of our growth strategy - achieving good like-for-like sales, opening 12 superstores and significantly increasing revenues from our home delivery offer.”

The increased expenditure on the online and delivery service helped home delivery sales jump 55% to account for 6% of total sales.

Shares slipped 1.3% to 892p today.
