Andy Murray, the British tennis champion and an apparent crowdfunding enthusiast, has now made multiple investments via the Seedrs online platform.
He has invested undisclosed sums into three British companies, Seedrs revealed.
One is Tossed, a ‘healthier eating’ food retail chain, another is ASOS (LON:ASC) backed Trillenium which has developed 3D virtual shopping software and the third is The Fuel Ventures Fund,, which was founded by couponing entrepreneur Mark Pearson.
“The three businesses I’ve chosen to kick off my crowdfunding investment portfolio are all in areas of industry I find interesting,” Murray said in a statement.
“Healthy eating is something I have to be passionate about as a sportsman, so Tossed was immediately one to consider, and the other two businesses are really pushing the boundaries of technology.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for these businesses and continuing to work closely with Seedrs.”
Murray is an ambassador for Seedrs, which was recently backed by City rainmakers Neil Woodford and the Rothchild family.
Tossed has already met its £750,000 target, it has now reached over £1mln and the campaign continues in the ‘overfunding’ phase.
Trillenium has also raised over 100% of its target, with around £226,000 pledged. The Fuel Ventures Fund meanwhile raised just shy of £550,000 as part of an over £30mln venture capital fund.
Jeff Lynn, Seedrs chief executive and co-founder, said: “It’s great to see Andy already taking such an active interest in the businesses on Seedrs.
“The fact he has decided to make multiple investments in hungry entrepreneurs shows his commitment to building a dynamic portfolio of early-stage businesses.”
