Fineqia International Inc (CSE:FNQ) senior associate Matteo Greco spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the strong August rebound in crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs), including renewed investor demand for Bitcoin, Ethereum and altcoin products.
Greco said crypto ETP assets under management jumped 27% in August, outperforming the wider crypto market's 21% rise, driven by both rising prices and renewed inflows, with particularly strong US demand late in the month. "The main change was that with this recent price action, investors stopped waiting for confirmation and started increasing purchase volume," he said.
He highlighted US spot Bitcoin ETFs, which attracted around $1.6 billion of inflows over four days in the final week of August — enough to push AUM growth beyond what market appreciation alone could explain.
Ethereum ETPs rose 43% against a 32% increase in Ethereum itself, which Greco characterised primarily as a "catch-up trade" following weaker performance in previous months, rather than evidence of demand shifting away from Bitcoin.
Altcoin ETPs also gained more than 40%, pointing to greater selectivity and demand beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, though Greco cautioned the small asset base makes it too early to call this a major institutional shift.
Looking longer term, Greco described the trend as "structural broadening rather than a structural change," noting Bitcoin and Ethereum still account for more than 92% of overall crypto ETP assets under management.
