Galliford Try wins £110m River Mease water infrastructure contract

Galliford Try Holdings PLC (LSE:GFRD, FRA:3WC), the UK construction group, has been appointed to deliver a £110 million project to improve water quality in the River Mease.

The company's Environment business will carry out the work on behalf of Severn Trent Water.

The project is required under the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP), a set of environmental obligations placed on water companies by regulators.

It will involve building a 23km cross-country pipeline to carry flows from the Packington and Measham treatment works.

Bill Hocking, chief executive of Galliford Try, said the contract strengthened the company's long-standing relationship with Severn Trent.

He said it reinforced the firm's position as a leading delivery partner for complex, large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Hocking added that the work supported environmental compliance and long-term resilience.

Water companies across the UK are under increasing pressure to upgrade ageing infrastructure and reduce pollution entering rivers, following years of criticism over sewage discharges.
