HAWK RESOURCES LIMITED (ASX:HFC) has secured a Mining Entry Permit for its Olympus scandium project in Western Australia, clearing a key regulatory hurdle as the company prepares to begin on-ground exploration in September.
The permit has been approved by Western Australia’s Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, while a completed Cultural Heritage Survey has provided the heritage clearances required for planned exploration activities.
Hawk is now awaiting consent from the WA Minister for Mines, Petroleum and Exploration and approval of its Programme of Work, which represents the final government approval required before field activities can begin. The company expects this process to be completed in September.
Exploration program targets large scandium anomaly
Once approvals are in place, Hawk plans to begin soil and rock sampling, geophysical surveying and RAB drilling across a priority area covering around 80 square kilometres.
The first phase will focus on verification soil sampling across a 7-kilometre by 4-kilometre scandium anomaly grading more than 500 parts per million scandium. Positive verification results would be followed by detailed soil sampling to define priority drilling targets.
Historical exploration has highlighted the scale of the opportunity, with the anomaly containing five discrete zones grading above 1,000 ppm scandium. Previous RAB drilling, undertaken outside the main anomaly, returned near-surface intersections including 11 metres at 934 ppm scandium from surface, including 2 metres at 1,613 ppm.
Hawk believes Olympus has the potential to host a new scandium province, although the historical results were generated using portable XRF analysis and pre-date JORC 2012 standards. The company cautions that laboratory assays are required to establish definitive grades and widths.
Olympus project
Olympus comprises two granted exploration licences covering about 309 square kilometres in Western Australia’s West Musgrave region, roughly 285 kilometres west of Yulara.
Hawk acquired an option to earn up to an 80% interest in the project in October 2025 and has since focused on securing Traditional Owner agreements, heritage clearances and government approvals required to begin exploration.
The company’s immediate work program includes securing the final Programme of Work approval, carrying out verification sampling during the third quarter and, subject to results, undertaking detailed soil sampling to delineate areas for drilling.
