Aurizon launches $250 million share buy-back after tough week

Aurizon Holdings Ltd (ASX:AZJ) has unveiled an on-market share buy-back of up to $250 million as the rail freight operator looks to restore investor confidence following a sharp post-results sell-off.

The buy-back represents about 3.9% of Aurizon’s shares on issue and is expected to begin on 8 September 2026, running for up to 12 months.

The move comes just days after Aurizon shares fell as much as 14% following the release of its full-year results.

Shares have responded positively to the announcement, rising 2.4% to $3.78 after briefly reaching $3.83 in early trade.
