Friday's agenda - bookies and builders in focus

Another UK house builder is set to update investors on trading on Friday in a sector which is showing good strength.

Another UK housebuilder is set to update investors on trading on Friday in a sector which is currently showing good strength.

Barratt Developments (LON:BDEV) revealed last month it had seen profit before tax rise by 45% in the last year.

Meanwhile, Taylor Wimpey (LON:TW.), at the tail end of last month, unveiled a strong first half numbers, and welcomed the Conservative government's commitments to build more homes.

The constructor reported pre-tax profits up 33% in the six months to June 28 at £238mln compared to the first half of 2014.

It is the turn of Bellway (LON:BWY) on Friday and broker Numis said it reckoned the stock will remain at the forefront of the sector for future volume growth due to its regional expansion and strong balance sheet.

This, and the relative returns and the "prudence" of the business is not reflected in the discount which the firm trades on relative to the wider sector.

Numis rates Bellway as an 'add' and it is its "preferred" stock in the sector.

It expects the group to report that market conditions since the last update have been strong.

From those who dig up turf to so called accountants and William Hill (LON:WMH) will report it interims. Numis is less bullish on the bookmaker, rating it 'hold' and notes it had a "poor start" to its full year 2015.

Analyst Ivor Jones estimated first half earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) will be down 20% to £142mln, and it reckons on a similar profit decline for the full year. Investors will be keen to hear more on various factors, including potential changes to gaming machine regulation.
