Orpheus Uranium Ltd (ASX:ORP, OTC:AGREF) has expanded its Marree Uranium Project in South Australia after being granted three new exploration licences covering a combined 2,735 square kilometres, strengthening its district-scale position in the uranium-rich Lake Eyre Basin.
Exploration licences EL 7144, EL 7145 and EL 7146 were granted to Orpheus’ wholly owned subsidiary Trachre Pty Ltd and complement the company’s existing and recently acquired tenure at Marree.
The licences form part of Orpheus’ broader expansion strategy for the project, including the Marree tenure transaction announced in June 2026. The company also has an established Native Title Mining Agreement (NTMA) for exploration with The Dieri Aboriginal Corporation, providing a framework for progressing future exploration subject to consultation, access and regulatory requirements.
Building a district-scale uranium project
The new licences comprise the 939-square-kilometre Etadunna South licence, 935-square-kilometre Dulkaninna North licence and 861-square-kilometre Dulkaninna South licence, with Orpheus holding a 100% interest in each.
Located within the broader Lake Eyre Basin, the tenure contains mapped occurrences of the Namba and Eyre formations as well as Cretaceous sedimentary units considered prospective for sediment-hosted uranium mineralisation.
The Eyre Formation is a recognised host to uranium mineralisation elsewhere in the surrounding province, including at the nearby Four Mile, Pannikan and Pepegoona deposits, while regional palaeochannel systems also host the Honeymoon and Goulds Dam deposits.
Exploration will focus on defining buried palaeochannels, identifying permeable sandstone horizons and assessing whether suitable reductants coincide with interpreted uranium-bearing groundwater pathways.
Managing director Clinton Dubieniecki said the licences reinforced Marree as a district-scale exploration opportunity and gave the company scope to evaluate the wider uranium-mineralising system using a consistent exploration model.
Next steps
Initial work will apply Orpheus’ developing uranium mineralisation model across the newly granted licences, supported by field visits designed to refine geological interpretations and identify priority targets.
Those targets may then progress to advanced exploration, including drilling, subject to access, heritage and regulatory approvals.
The company also plans to refine its geological model, complete heritage surveys, continue stakeholder engagement and review its broader tenure package to concentrate exploration on the most prospective areas.
