Snail Games on how AI companions will change multiplayer gaming - ICYMI

Snail Games (NASDAQ:SNAL) earlier this week discussed the development of Egofold's Non-Human Players (NHPs), outlining a long-term vision for AI companions designed to fundamentally enhance how people experience video games.

Speaking with Proactive, Senior Software Engineer & Manager Patrick Abiney said the company is developing AI companions capable of perceiving, understanding, communicating and playing alongside human players. Rather than relying on scripted behaviours, the technology is intended to actively participate in gameplay by helping users learn, coordinating strategies and supporting cooperative experiences.

Abiney said the company views NHPs as a new category of gaming AI, explaining that the technology combines perception, reasoning, memory and learning into a real-time system that operates from the player's perspective. He said the objective is to create companions that understand gameplay, make decisions and interact naturally alongside players.

A key element of the strategy is platform scalability. Rather than focusing on a single game, Abiney said Egofold is building AI companions capable of adapting across multiple genres, including strategy, shooter and survival titles. He noted that although individual games present different mechanics and objectives, the core challenge remains enabling AI to understand the environment, make effective decisions and cooperate with players.

One of the potential catalysts highlighted during the interview is continued expansion of the platform's cross-genre capabilities. Abiney said the company has already demonstrated NHPs across multiple genres and is continuing to broaden those capabilities, positioning the technology for wider application.

Another potential growth driver is accessibility. Abiney said intelligent companions could help new players learn games more effectively, fill cooperative teams when human players are unavailable and tailor gameplay to different skill levels, potentially broadening player engagement.

Highlighting the broader vision, Abiney said, "AI companions have the potential to make games feel more alive and more personal than ever before." He added that companions could remember previous adventures, adapt to individual play styles, offer guidance when needed and create new shared experiences with players.

Looking ahead, Abiney said the company's objective is to create AI companions that make games more enjoyable, welcoming and memorable, with the potential for Non-Human Players to become a natural part of future gaming experiences.
