The Royal Mint private wealth consultant Stuart O'Reilly tells Proactive's Stephen Gunnion that gold's core drivers remain firmly in place even after its pullback from record highs, citing geopolitical tensions, shifting global alliances, and sustained central bank buying since Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Central banks, he says, increasingly treat gold as a political hedge in uncertain times.
O'Reilly broke down gold's role as a portfolio diversifier: "It's a good diversifier that doesn't drag too much on a portfolio when times are good in the stock market, but can help shield some of the shocks in a bear market."
He also flagged a shift in who's buying: more younger investors and women turning to physical gold, alongside industry moves toward recycled gold and stronger provenance standards. O'Reilly closed by outlining gold's three core portfolio roles: diversification, liquidity and long-term returns; and the vaulting options available to investors holding physical bullion.
