Sun Silver Ltd (ASX:SS1) has expanded its Maverick Silver Project in Nevada through a strategic acquisition and new claim staking, securing control of about 15 kilometres of prospective strike along the project’s emerging northwest mineralised corridor.
The company has signed a binding agreement to acquire the 100%-owned Bayan Springs North Project from Bayan Mining and Minerals Ltd (ASX:BMM, OTC:BMMKF, FRA:7JL), subject to customary completion conditions, and has separately staked 106 additional lode mining claims covering about 8.86 square kilometres.
Together, the transactions establish continuous ownership between Maverick’s existing 539-million-ounce silver-equivalent mineral resource and a newly identified Northern Target more than four kilometres to the north.
Northern Target adds exploration upside
The Northern Target is defined by a two-kilometre arsenic-antimony anomaly associated with silica alteration, decalcification and jasperoidal brecciation.
Sun Silver said these pathfinder elements and alteration styles are consistent with Carlin-style mineralising systems and show similarities to surface geochemistry recorded above the existing Maverick deposit.
The target remains open along strike and is situated within a broader corridor that has seen limited modern exploration.
Sun Silver plans to determine whether the Northern Target forms part of the same mineralising system as Maverick through further sampling, geological interpretation and, subject to results, eventual drilling.
Landholding consolidates prospective trend
The Bayan Springs North acquisition comprises 116 lode claims covering about 9.70 square kilometres, while the newly staked claims add a further 8.86 square kilometres.
Following completion, Sun Silver will control about 15 kilometres of prospective strike, of which only around 2.5 kilometres has been drill tested.
The acquisition consideration includes A$150,000 payable on completion, a further A$150,000 after 12 months and a contingent A$500,000 payment if drilling within five years returns an intersection of at least 20 metres grading 100 g/t silver equivalent or better.
The acquired claims are also subject to a 1% net smelter return royalty, half of which Sun Silver may repurchase for A$2 million.
Maverick resource remains open
Maverick is about 85 kilometres from Elko in Nevada and hosts a JORC inferred resource of 237.3 million tonnes at 45.5 g/t silver and 0.30 g/t gold.
That equates to 347.2 million ounces of silver and 2.25 million ounces of gold, or 539 million ounces of silver equivalent.
The resource remains open along strike and at depth, with Sun Silver’s 2026 drilling program continuing and assay results expected shortly.
