PLC Resources Ltd (ASX:PLC) has identified signs of a potentially larger gold system at its Rochefort prospect while defining a new regional structural target corridor across the Abbotts North Gold Project in Western Australia.
Maiden reverse circulation drilling at Rochefort returned anomalous gold of up to 0.4 g/t, accompanied by albite alteration, sulphidation and pathfinder geochemistry that strengthens toward the northwest and at depth.
The company believes the five-hole, 1,020-metre reconnaissance program may have intersected the edge of a mineralised system, with follow-up drilling now being planned under existing heritage and environmental approvals.
Geochemistry vectors toward northwest target
Three of the five holes intersected highly fractionated dolerites, a prospective host rock associated with several significant gold deposits across the Yilgarn Craton.
PLC said increasing sodic alteration, magnesium depletion and weak but consistent sulphide development provided further evidence of proximity to a gold source.
Gold values also increased systematically toward the northwest of the drill pattern and within the most fractionated portions of the dolerite.
Additional multi-element assays are pending and will be used to refine targeting ahead of the next drilling campaign.
Airborne survey defines regional corridor
Separately, a high-resolution airborne magnetic and radiometric survey has revealed a large, previously unrecognised syncline along the eastern margin of the Abbotts Greenstone Belt.
The structure extends along strike from New Murchison Gold (ASX:NMG) Ltd prospects including Youngs and Lydia, as well as the Crown Prince deposit, which hosts 2.2 million tonnes at 3.3 g/t gold for 228,400 ounces.
PLC has also interpreted a cross-cutting structural corridor extending toward historical gold prospects on neighbouring tenure, providing a second regional exploration target.
Programs of Work have been approved for regional aircore drilling, with detailed targeting and field reconnaissance underway.
Next steps
PLC will complete outstanding multi-element analysis before mobilising a rig for follow-up RC drilling northwest of Rochefort.
The company will also advance interpretation of the eastern-margin structural corridor, undertake geological mapping and prepare an aircore program to test priority regional targets.
