OpenAI (Unlisted:OPAI) has appointed Nubank founder David Vélez and BNY chairman and chief executive Robin Vince to the boards of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group, strengthening its financial and public-market expertise.
Vince will also chair OpenAI’s audit committee, bringing extensive governance, risk-management and financial-services experience as the artificial in telligence company prepares for its next phase of growth.
Financial experience added
Vélez is the founder, chairman and global chief executive of Nubank, one of Latin America’s largest digital financial-services businesses.
Vince leads BNY, a major global financial institution, and is expected to support OpenAI’s oversight as its operations and corporate responsibilities expand.
OpenAI said the executives offered complementary perspectives on using technology to transform industries, improve access and support economic growth.
Governance structure
The appointments expand boards chaired by Bret Taylor and follow OpenAI’s restructuring into the nonprofit OpenAI Foundation and for-profit OpenAI Group public benefit corporation.
The Foundation retains special governance rights, including authority to appoint and replace OpenAI Group directors.
