Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M) has completed Phase 2 exploration at its wholly owned Warby Tungsten Project in North Queensland, collecting about 90 samples across priority targets as it moves closer to selecting initial drill sites.
The program combined detailed geological mapping with soil, stream-sediment concentrate, and targeted rock-chip sampling across a prospective two-kilometre structural corridor centred on historical tungsten workings near the Angor Granite contact.
Samples are expected to be submitted shortly to ALS Laboratories in Townsville for tungsten and multi-element analysis, with assay results anticipated during August 2026.
Building the Warby geological model
Phase 2 was designed to determine the scale, continuity and geological controls of the Warby mineralised system following encouraging reconnaissance work earlier this year.
Field activities covered nine individual veins and focused on favourable rock units, mineralised quartz veins and structural corridors identified during Phase 1.
That earlier work confirmed high-grade tungsten mineralisation associated with wolframite-bearing quartz veins adjacent to the Angor Granite.
L1M's latest mapping and geochemical data should help establish the orientation and potential scale of mineralisation, while also identifying concealed targets beneath transported surface cover.
The program was completed safely, on schedule and under budget, without any health, safety or environmental incidents.
Strategic tungsten exposure in North Queensland
Warby is in Far North Queensland, within the broader regional setting of the operating Mt Carbine tungsten mine.
Managing director Troy Brice said the program had provided the company with a stronger geological dataset from the prospective intrusive contact and structural corridor.
“We’re looking forward to receiving the assay results and combining them with what we have learnt in the field to decide where we focus Phase 3 and our first drill targets,” he said.
The company views Warby as a source of strategic exposure to tungsten, which is used across defence, aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries and is increasingly important to Western critical mineral supply chains.
Location of EPM 28262 Warby and adjacent Scardon tenement and proximity to peers in Far North Queensland.
Next steps
Once assay results are received, Lightning will integrate the laboratory data with structural mapping and historical exploration information.
The company will then rank tungsten anomalies, finalise its Phase 3 exploration program and prioritise potential initial drill targets.
A further market update is planned after the assays have been interpreted.
