Small Cap Watch: Black Cat, Odyssey and Ora Banda build gold momentum

The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (XSO) strengthened on Wednesday, adding 19.3 points, or 0.57%, to close at 3,379.00.

The small-cap benchmark has gained 27.3 points, or 0.81%, over the past five trading sessions, reflecting improved investor sentiment across the junior end of the Australian market.

Against this firmer backdrop, several ASX-listed companies delivered exploration, production and funding updates, led by developments across Western Australia’s gold sector.

Black Cat unlocks new high-grade lodes at Paulsens

Black Cat Syndicate Ltd (ASX:BC8) has reported progress on two recently identified high-grade gold lodes at its Paulsens Gold Operation, with the Lynx and Regulus discoveries opening new exploration opportunities across the historic mining centre.

The company described Lynx as a significant breakthrough in its understanding of the Paulsens orebody, revealing a previously unrecognised structural orientation with the potential to host additional near-surface, high-grade mineralisation.

Work at the Regulus lode has also highlighted the prospectivity of the underexplored hanging wall and reinforced the broader mineral potential of the Paulsens system.

Black Cat believes the discoveries provide a repeatable exploration model that can be applied across the operation. The company is also advancing drilling at Belvedere, where it is targeting resource growth and additional mineralised positions that could support future production.

Odyssey intersects high-grade gold at new Shackle target

Odyssey Gold Ltd (ASX:ODY) has returned further high-grade gold results from resource growth and development drilling at its Tuckanarra Gold Project.

First-pass drilling at the new Shackle target intersected high-grade mineralisation beneath historical workings, validating the company’s strategy of testing structural targets that received limited attention from previous explorers.

Historic mining across the Tuckanarra field was largely confined to shallow oxide mineralisation above the water table. Odyssey believes this leaves substantial potential for new discoveries along lightly drilled mineralised trends and beneath numerous old workings.

The ongoing program is designed to expand the project’s resource base and improve Odyssey’s understanding of the structures controlling gold mineralisation across Tuckanarra.

Ora Banda delivers record production and cash flow

Ora Banda Mining Ltd (ASX:OBM, OTC:ESGFF, FRA:M6N) has reported record gold production and cash flow for the June 2026 quarter, marking another step in the expansion of its Davyhurst operations.

The quarter also included the launch of Ora Banda’s multi-year “DRIVE to 300” growth strategy, which outlines its pathway towards higher production levels.

The company has updated its mineral inventory to a 3.7-million-ounce mineral resource and a 610,000-ounce ore reserve, establishing a stronger foundation for future mine development and production growth.

Ora Banda said the operational and resource milestones achieved during the quarter positioned Davyhurst for its next phase of expansion.

Unith targets up to A$2.75 million funding boost

Unith Ltd (ASX:UNT) has secured firm commitments to raise A$1 million through a placement to institutional, sophisticated and professional investors.

The company will issue 125 million new shares at A$0.008 each, together with one free attaching option for every two shares issued. The options will be exercisable at A$0.013 and expire on December 31, 2028.

Unith is also offering eligible shareholders the opportunity to participate in a pro rata non-renounceable entitlement offer at the same issue price, targeting a further A$1.75 million.

Should the entitlement offer be fully subscribed, the combined capital raising would deliver approximately A$2.75 million in gross proceeds.
