Peregrine Gold Ltd (ASX:PGD) has uncovered a new 3–4 kilometre corridor of gold-bearing paleo gravels at its Newman Gold Project in Western Australia, prompting the company to lodge a Mining Lease application over the newly named Capricorn Prospect as it evaluates a potential pathway to early-stage, low-cost gold production.
Initial testing south of the Peninsula Prospect confirmed significant gold anomalism, with mapping identifying auriferous paleo gravels extending over several kilometres. The discovery expands the exploration footprint at Newman while also raising the possibility of a concealed primary bedrock gold source feeding the extensive gravel system.
The Capricorn Prospect was identified after Peregrine completed orientation bulk sampling immediately south of the Peninsula Prospect, where visible gold had previously been associated with a quartz vein.
Although the initial bulk sampling did not include laboratory assays, gold particles recovered in panned concentrates confirmed the presence of auriferous paleo gravels. Follow-up systematic geochemical sampling across roughly 4 kilometres of strike collected 61 channel samples, with assays received for the first 36 samples while the remaining 25 are pending.
Mapping indicates the paleo gravel system ranges from 43 metres to 185 metres wide and averages around one metre thick, highlighting a substantial near-surface target extending south from the Peninsula Prospect.
Mining lease secured as bulk sampling expands
To advance the opportunity, Peregrine has lodged a Mining Lease application covering approximately 202 hectares over the Capricorn Prospect.
The company plans additional bulk sampling to better estimate gold grades and particle size distribution while also trialling dry blowing, a water-free processing method that could lower operating costs and streamline regulatory approvals for any future small-scale mining operation.
Peregrine also believes the widespread distribution of detrital gold could indicate an undiscovered bedrock gold source beneath or adjacent to the paleo gravels, with future exploration designed to investigate both mining and exploration opportunities simultaneously.
Technical director George Merhi said the discovery highlighted "a new zone of potentially significant near-surface gold mineralisation" that, if confirmed through further work, could provide the company with "an additional, potentially low-cost pathway to early-stage gold extraction."
About Peregrine Gold
Peregrine Gold is focused on gold exploration in Western Australia's Pilbara region, with its flagship Newman Gold Project targeting multiple styles of mineralisation across the highly prospective Capricorn Orogen. The company is advancing exploration across the project while assessing opportunities to accelerate value through potential near-surface mining initiatives.
