Proteomics International secures US patent for endometriosis blood test

Proteomics International Laboratories Ltd (ASX:PIQ) (Proteomics International Laboratories Ltd (ASX:PIQ)) has secured a United States patent for PromarkerEndo, its proprietary blood test for diagnosing endometriosis. This is a major commercialisation milestone in the world’s largest healthcare market.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the patent titled Endometriosis Biomarkers, providing intellectual property protection for the company’s diagnostic test and its use in treatment guidance.

The patent covers methods of diagnosing endometriosis using specific protein biomarkers measured in blood samples, with protection expected to extend until March 2041, subject to grant and maintenance requirements.

Proteomics International said the grant strengthened its intellectual property portfolio and supported future partnerships, licensing discussions and regulatory reimbursement opportunities in the US.

CEO and managing director David Morris described the US patent as “a major achievement” and validation of the novelty and commercial potential of PromarkerEndo.

“The grant of this patent by the USPTO is a major achievement and an important validation of the novelty and commercial potential of PromarkerEndo. The United States is the world’s largest healthcare market and securing patent protection in this jurisdiction is a critical step in our global commercialisation strategy. This milestone significantly strengthens our position for future partnerships, licensing discussions, and regulatory reimbursement advancement.”

PromarkerEndo targets unmet diagnostic need

PromarkerEndo is designed as a non-invasive blood test for endometriosis, a condition that affects one in nine women and girls and can currently take an average of seven years to diagnose.

The company said published clinical studies had demonstrated high accuracy in detecting endometriosis, including early-stage disease, positioning the test as a potential alternative to surgical laparoscopy for women presenting with symptoms.

Patent protection for PromarkerEndo has now been granted in Japan and the United States, while applications are being pursued in Australia, Canada, China, Europe, India, Singapore and South Korea.

About Proteomics International

Its Promarker platform searches for protein “fingerprints” in blood samples to identify disease signatures, supporting the development of diagnostic tools aimed at improving treatment decisions and patient outcomes.
