374Water Inc (NASDAQ:SCWO, FRA:8LL) has completed the first phase of a pilot deployment of its mobile AirSCWO waste treatment system in St. Cloud, Minnesota, as the cleantech company continues to evaluate its technology for the destruction of PFAS-containing waste streams.
The project is being carried out under a $600,000 Waste Destruction Services contract with the City of St. Cloud in partnership with Barr Engineering at the city's Nutrient, Energy, and Water Recovery Facility. The pilot is scheduled to continue through mid-September 2026 and is supported by Minnesota's Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR).
Phase 1 consisted of a four-week campaign processing Class B biosolids at solids concentrations of up to 10%. The company said it is analyzing performance data from the initial phase and that early results are consistent with previous AirSCWO campaigns.
Phase 2 is now underway and involves processing Class A Lystek biosolids. According to the company, operations have remained steady with no major operational challenges reported during the first week of the second phase.
The pilot is designed to process both undigested and post-thermal hydrolysis digested waste streams as part of the state's evaluation of AirSCWO technology for the permanent destruction of PFAS-laden waste.
"We are proud of our field team and the steady, professional operations they have delivered since day one in St. Cloud," 374Water chief operating officer Brad Meyers said in a statement. "Phase 1 is complete with strong early data, and Phase 2 is off to an equally solid start."
Meyers added that the deployment is helping validate both the technology and its commercial potential.
"What we're seeing in the field validates both the reliability of the technology and the commercial model. Importantly, this deployment is reinforcing what we're already hearing from the market - demand for mobile AirSCWO services is real and growing, both as a complement to our expanding fixed-site WDS business and as a demonstration platform that is opening doors with new customers," he said.
374Water said the mobile AirSCWO system is intended to provide onsite treatment for waste streams that cannot be transported while also serving as a platform for pilot demonstrations. The company estimates each mobile unit could generate between $500,000 and $1.5 million in annual revenue depending on deployment frequency, waste stream characteristics and contract terms, although those projections are forward-looking.
The company said it is also developing additional mobile AirSCWO projects that are expected to follow the St. Cloud deployment as it seeks to expand its commercial pipeline.
