American Resources CEO provides update on Marion critical minerals refining facility – ICYMI

American Resources Corp (NASDAQ:AREC) earlier this week provided an update on the development of its Marion, Indiana, critical minerals refining facility, highlighting progress toward commercial germanium production and outlining a broader strategy to expand domestic supply of strategic materials.

Speaking with Proactive, chief executive officer Mark Jensen said the company was approaching a significant milestone with the launch of its first germanium production line, expected during the third quarter of 2026.

Jensen explained that American Resources is already producing germanium commercially at its Noblesville, Indiana facility and is now preparing to scale operations through Marion. He described the new facility as a key component of the company's growth plans, noting that four production lines are currently being developed to process multiple feedstocks.

According to Jensen, the company believes it could become the largest producer of germanium in the United States and potentially the only domestic producer of the critical mineral. He noted that the Marion facility has undergone extensive renovation over the past three years and is now focused on capacity expansion.

One of the notable features of the project is the flexibility of the refining technology. Jensen said the company's technical team has developed a simplified refining process designed to efficiently separate and purify materials while reducing costs. He indicated that the current production lines are being developed against a backdrop of existing contracts and ongoing discussions with defence contractors and Fortune 500 companies.

A major growth catalyst could come from future expansion within the Marion complex. Jensen stated that the initial four production lines occupy only a small portion of the available space, leaving significant room for additional development.

Beyond germanium, American Resources is evaluating new production lines for lithium carbonate and tungsten, both of which are being considered in response to customer demand. Jensen suggested these facilities could become among the largest operations at the site.

The company's strategy also centres on processing waste streams into valuable critical minerals. Jensen said American Resources can, in some cases, produce materials at less than one-seventh of prevailing market prices. He argued that maintaining a competitive cost structure is essential in a market where China controls the majority of global refining capacity.

Among the standout comments, Jensen said: "We're doing it today commercially on a weekly basis out of our Noblesville facility. But now having this facility come online is a huge deal."

Investors may now focus on the Q3 launch of the germanium line, contract conversions with industrial customers and defence partners, and potential expansion into lithium carbonate and tungsten processing as key future catalysts.
