ReconAfrica starts first production test – ICYMI

Reconnaissance Energy Africa Ltd (TSX-V:RECO, OTCQX:RECAF, FRA:0XD) earlier this week announced the start of production testing at its Kavango Discovery in Namibia, marking a significant milestone in the company's efforts to evaluate what management believes could become an important new hydrocarbon play in the country.

Speaking with Proactive, chief executive Brian Reinsborough said the testing programme follows years of exploration work and de-risking activity in the Kavango West area of the Damara Fold Belt.

The program is focused on the company's second well in the region, which yielded a hydrocarbon discovery announced late in 2025. Reinsborough said the current testing phase is designed to answer two key questions: the type of hydrocarbons present and the ability of the reservoir to produce them commercially.

The test will examine six intervals spanning approximately 420 metres of hydrocarbon-bearing section. Three intervals are located within the Huttenburg formation, where the company identified 74 metres of pay, while a further three intervals will target the deeper Elandshoek formation.

Reinsborough reported that the Elandshoek interval contains extensive hydrocarbon-saturated carbonate reservoirs and said the company is encouraged by what it has observed to date.

The CEO noted that the production test required extensive logistical preparation, including sourcing specialized equipment from Asia, North America and Europe before transporting it to northern Namibia.

One of the key catalysts for investors will be the production test results themselves. Positive outcomes could provide valuable information regarding reservoir quality, hydrocarbon composition and potential flow characteristics, all of which are important factors in assessing commercial viability.

Reinsborough described the program as "a big milestone" and said that if successful it could prove to be a "game changer" for Namibia's energy resources.

The company is conducting the testing programme in partnership with BW Energy and NAMCOR, with all parties closely monitoring the results.
