Metir PLC MET View profile

Metir exec chair discusses commercial pipeline for PFAS - ICYMI

Metir PLC chairman and chief executive Bob Moore joined Proactive to discuss the company's progress in rapid PFAS detection, water quality monitoring and environmental testing technologies.

Moore outlined recent commercial milestones, including Metir's first PFAS detector sale to Veralto, and highlighted growing demand driven by tightening environmental regulation and remediation activity.

Watch the full interview below, followed by a transcript of the discussion.

For investors new to Metir, what problem does your PFAS detection technology solve and how does it differ from traditional laboratory testing?

Bob Moore

PFAS contamination is widespread and current remediation projects typically rely on laboratory testing, which can take two to three weeks or longer. Metir has worked with remediation specialists that require faster results. The company is developing technology capable of providing onsite PFAS analysis within around 30 minutes. Academic testing and trials have been successful and the focus is now shifting toward commercial deployment. Moore said he believes the technology is a potential game changer because no comparable solution currently provides that capability.

You've announced your first commercial sale of a PFAS detector to Veralto. How significant is that validation?

Bob Moore

Veralto has spent considerable time evaluating the equipment and is helping optimise it for customer use. Metir is also working with FIDCHEM to introduce AI-driven analysis tools that simplify interpretation and reduce the skill level required for operation. Moore said Veralto could become a significant future partner.

Proactive

How large is the market opportunity and where is demand strongest?

Bob Moore

External market estimates suggest PFAS testing could become a billion-dollar market by 2030. Traditional testing is expensive and requires numerous samples. Current demand is strongest in remediation projects linked to firefighting foams, particularly around airports and training facilities where PFAS contamination has entered soil and water systems.

Proactive

How important is the Continuous Toxicity Monitor project in Doha?

Bob Moore

Metir owns the Microtox technology platform, which detects a broad range of toxins in water. Twenty-seven CTM units have been deployed across Doha's water pumping stations, providing continuous monitoring and rapid alerts. The project serves as a flagship deployment and the company hopes to expand to 44 stations.

How do the QuickChek SRB kits and pathogen detector fit into the broader strategy?

Bob Moore

QuickChek SRB kits detect sulfate-reducing bacteria that can cause severe corrosion in industrial infrastructure. Production capacity is being increased following strong demand. The pathogen detector, being developed with Aptamer Group, targets cryptosporidium and is expected to enter the market in 2027. The system is designed to provide real-time monitoring and rapid alerts.

Proactive

What milestones should investors watch over the next year?

Bob Moore

Investors should monitor additional CTM projects, growth in Microtox sales, increased SRB kit production, progress on the pathogen detector and continued validation and commercialisation of the PFAS platform. Metir uses mass spectrometry and remains the gold standard for PFAS measurement at parts-per-trillion levels, enabling validation against laboratory standards.
