Small Cap Watch: Positive biotech and mining updates to start the day

The S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries Index (ASX: XSO) closed at 3,390.60, down 6.60 points or 0.19% in the latest session. The index has fallen 2.10% over the past five trading days, reflecting ongoing weakness across the small-cap sector.

Among company announcements this morning there has been a mix of capital raising activity, takeover developments and clinical trial progress. You can read about the following and more throughout the day.

Aurum managing director backs company with $840,000 investment

Aurum Resources Ltd (ASX:AUE) has issued 1.4 million fully paid ordinary shares to managing director Dr Caigen Wang at $0.60 per share, representing a personal investment of $840,000.

The issue follows shareholder approval at the company's general meeting on 9 June 2026 and was completed at the same price paid by cornerstone investor Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX: PRU) and participants in Aurum's $28.8 million placement announced in March.

Dr Wang's investment is additional to funds raised under the placement and increases his holding to 4.0% of Aurum's issued capital.

The investment is likely to be viewed positively by investors as a sign of management confidence in the company's growth strategy and project portfolio.

Far East Gold urges shareholders to take no action on takeover offer

Far East Gold Ltd (ASX:FEG) has advised shareholders that Xingye Gold (Hong Kong) Mining Company Limited has now dispatched its bidder's statement in relation to its proposed off-market takeover bid.

The offer seeks to acquire all Far East Gold shares not already owned by Xingye Gold for $0.13 cash per share, following the proposal announced on May 27, 2026.

Far East Gold's board reiterated its previous advice that shareholders should take no action at this stage while the company prepares and releases its target's statement.

The company emphasised that shareholders do not need to respond to correspondence from the bidder or take any steps regarding the offer until further guidance is provided.

Vitrafy secures $30 million institutional placement

Vitrafy Life Sciences Ltd (ASX: VFY) has received firm commitments to raise $30 million through a non-underwritten institutional placement.

The company will issue approximately 11.54 million new shares at $2.60 per share, with the new securities ranking equally with existing shares.

The placement price represents a 31.6% discount to Vitrafy's closing share price of $3.80 on 9 June and an 8.8% discount to the company's 15-day volume weighted average price of $2.851.

Vitrafy said the raising attracted strong support from both existing and new institutional and sophisticated investors.

The proceeds are expected to strengthen the company's balance sheet and support its ongoing life sciences development programs.

Neurizon reaches key ALS trial recruitment milestone

Neurizon Therapeutics Ltd (ASX:NUZ) has reported that more than 50% of participants have now been dosed in Regimen I of the HEALEY ALS Platform Trial evaluating its lead candidate NUZ-001.

As at June 9, 2026, 167 participants had been assigned to the study and 129 participants had received treatment, with 78 clinical trial sites activated across the United States.

The company said recruitment momentum continues to exceed expectations, contributing to the recent expansion of Regimen I from 160 to 240 participants.

Neurizon believes the larger study population will provide a more robust dataset while maintaining the original statistical assumptions supporting the primary efficacy analysis.

The milestone marks another step forward for NUZ-001 as the company advances development of its treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the most common form of motor neurone disease.
