Record Resources sees major oil potential in Gabon – ICYMI

Record Resources Inc (TSX-V:REC) earlier this week outlined the potential of its offshore Ngulu Block in Gabon, with management highlighting both a significant existing discovery and substantial exploration upside across the licence area.

Speaking with Proactive, chief operating officer Alain Mizelle said the company signed the production sharing contract for the Ngulu Block late last year alongside its strategic partner. He noted that Record Resources currently holds approximately 20% to 25% of the project before participation by Gabon's national oil company.

Mizelle suggested that the market may not fully appreciate the value proposition of the Ngulu Block, emphasizing that the asset is not simply a frontier exploration opportunity.

According to Mizelle, the project contains the Loba field discovery, providing an established hydrocarbon accumulation within the licence area. At the same time, the broader block is estimated to host more than one billion barrels of prospective oil resources.

"The prospectivity all by itself is very, very big. You're talking about over a billion barrels of oil in terms of prospective resources," Mizelle said during the interview.

Management has been reviewing historical data from the Loba discovery well while also evaluating the Batanga reservoir, where the discovery was made. Mizelle said both previous operator work and ongoing petrophysical studies support the company's assessment of the reservoir's commercial potential.

According to the company's analysis, the discovery demonstrates characteristics consistent with successful development and could support production rates exceeding 5,000 barrels of oil per day.

For investors, potential catalysts include further technical studies, reservoir evaluation work and continued advancement of development planning around the Loba discovery. The combination of an existing discovery and large-scale prospective resources may continue to attract attention as the company works to demonstrate the commercial viability of the project.

Mizelle indicated that management views the discovery as a key component of the investment case, differentiating Ngulu from many early-stage exploration projects and providing a clearer pathway toward future development opportunities.
