Noxopharm Limited CEO Olivier Laczka talked with Proactive about the company's Sofra™ technology platform and how its discovery around Toll-like receptor 8 (TLR8) could unlock new opportunities in cancer treatment and chronic inflammatory diseases.
Laczka explained how Noxopharm has spent years developing a deeper understanding of the body's immune system and the mechanisms that regulate inflammation. Through research conducted alongside scientists at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research, the company identified a novel way to modulate immune responses using small RNA-based oligonucleotides.
The company is initially advancing a topical treatment for cutaneous lupus, designed to target inflammation directly in the skin while avoiding systemic immunosuppression. According to Laczka, this approach could provide a significant advantage over current treatments such as corticosteroids, which can carry substantial side effects with prolonged use.
Beyond autoimmune disease, Noxopharm is also developing applications in immuno-oncology. The company recently announced data showing that Sofra-derived oligonucleotides can significantly amplify the activity of TLR8, a key immune receptor being targeted in cancer therapies. New studies demonstrated that a proprietary TLR8-amplifying oligonucleotide boosted the activity of a clinical-stage TLR8 agonist by more than 200-fold in human skin biopsies.
