FingerMotion (NASDAQ:FNGR)plans to move into the edge AI inference computing market, telling investors it will develop modular, AI-focused edge computing facilities to handle localized artificial intelligence processing closer to where data is generated.
The mobile services and data company framed the initiative as an extension of its existing telecommunications and technology platform rather than a new line of business.
Management said its approach centers on edge-based AI inference infrastructure instead of hyperscale cloud data centers, targeting workloads in manufacturing, logistics, smart city systems, healthcare, transportation and industrial automation where latency, bandwidth efficiency and local processing matter most.
The company said it intends to use modular, self-contained compute units that can be deployed incrementally based on customer demand and regional requirements, with the design powered by localized micro-grid energy systems.
"As AI adoption accelerates across industries, we believe demand for localized inference infrastructure will continue to grow," said Martin Shen, CEO of FingerMotion.
"Our strategy is focused on developing scalable edge computing solutions that can be deployed efficiently and expanded as demand increases. Given our history of developing AI usage in our big data division, we view this initiative as a natural extension of our technology platform and a potential driver of long-term shareholder value."
The plan is at an early stage, and the company described its infrastructure model in intended terms rather than as deployed capacity. FingerMotion said modular construction could shorten the multi-year timelines associated with traditional data centers, which require extended permitting, construction and utility work, and that the effort could create recurring infrastructure-related revenue alongside its existing operations.
FingerMotion is a technology company whose core business is mobile payment and recharge platform solutions in China. The company says it aims to grow its user base organically into an engaged ecosystem, with a long-term goal of serving more than one billion users in China before expanding the model to other regional markets.
Shares of FingerMotion were up nearly 40% in New York on Wednesday morning.
