British Land Company PLC (LSE:BLND) has named Joanne McNamara, currently a senior executive at Oxford Properties, as its new CEO.
McNamara is currently executive vice president for Europe at Oxford Properties, a global real estate developer owned by one of Canada's largest pension funds.
She has more than 20 years of experience in the real estate sector and joined Oxford in 2010 as one of its first London team members, going on to oversee significant investment and development transactions and build a European portfolio with assets under management of approximately £8 billion.
Prior to that, she worked at property companies Hammerson and DTZ.
McNamara sits on Oxford's global executive and investment committees and on the OMERS portfolio management committee, and served as a non-executive director of ESR Group, the Asia-Pacific focused real estate logistics platform, until 2025.
She is expected to join British Land by the end of November at the latest, with a maximum notice period of six months.
Chairman William Rucker said McNamara was one of Europe's most respected real estate professionals, citing her expertise in private capital and reputation for decisive leadership.
British Land and Oxford Properties have an existing relationship as joint venture partners on the Leadenhall Building development in the City of London.
The appointment follows a period of transition at the FTSE 100 property company, which owns and manages a portfolio of retail parks, campuses and urban mixed-use developments across the UK.
