Simble partners with Macquarie University to accelerate nanosensor commercialisation

Simble Solutions Ltd (ASX:SIS) has entered into a strategic research partnership with Macquarie University to accelerate the development and commercialisation of its exclusive nanosensor technology, expanding its potential applications across sectors ranging from soft robotics and healthcare to industrial monitoring and environmental protection.

The collaboration builds on Simble's acquisition of Next Nano Pty Ltd, which holds an exclusive licence from Macquarie University to develop and commercialise the technology. Under the new agreements, the university and Simble will jointly fund a two-year research program designed to advance the platform towards commercial deployment.

As part of the arrangement, two PhD graduates will work under the supervision of Macquarie researcher Professor Noushin Nasiri, with Simble contributing $288,000 towards project costs over the two-year term.

Partnership targets multiple high-growth markets

The initial focus of the research program will be on developing the nanosensor technology for electronic skin (e-skin) applications used in next-generation soft robotics, ultraviolet dosimetry and health monitoring. The partnership also establishes a pathway to explore broader commercial opportunities across wearable safety devices, industrial process optimisation, environmental monitoring and infrastructure management.

Simble believes the collaboration will enhance capital efficiency by leveraging Macquarie University's research expertise and infrastructure while accelerating product development and market entry.

Importantly, the company retains exclusive commercialisation rights to any technology improvements arising from the collaboration through its existing licensing arrangements with the university.

Technology designed for low-power, always-on monitoring

The technology is based on a semi-conductive 3D zinc oxide nanostructure architecture designed to overcome limitations associated with conventional sensing hardware. According to Simble, the platform offers high sensitivity for environmental and optical sensing applications while maintaining an ultra-small form factor and low power consumption suitable for battery-powered Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

The nanosensors can be integrated into wearable systems, equipment and existing devices, creating continuous monitoring capabilities that generate real-time data, alerts and analytics. Potential applications include workplace safety monitoring in hazardous environments, industrial equipment health tracking and chemical detection for environmental and facility management.

The company views the partnership as a key step in transforming the technology from a university-developed innovation into a scalable commercial platform capable of addressing multiple high-growth markets.
