Apple reportedly targeting 2027 launch for smart glasses amid AI refinement efforts

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC) is aiming to launch its first smart glasses in late 2027, according to a Bloomberg report, after pushing back earlier timelines to refine artificial intelligence features and Siri integration.

The device, internally code-named N50, is expected to integrate Apple’s AI capabilities more deeply into a glasses form factor while remaining tightly connected to the iPhone.

Bloomberg reported that the delay reflects Apple’s focus on improving visual AI performance and ensuring smoother interaction with Siri and Apple Intelligence before bringing the product to market.

The glasses are expected to be positioned as a mainstream consumer accessory rather than a niche wearable, with Apple reportedly targeting a price range between $200 and $500.

The company is said to be developing at least four frame styles, as it works to broaden the appeal of the device across the traditional eyewear market rather than focusing narrowly on competition with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses.

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s strategy has shifted toward treating smart glasses as a category-defining product similar to the Apple Watch, with the goal of expanding adoption beyond early tech users. The device is still expected to function primarily as an iPhone-connected accessory rather than a standalone computing platform.

The first-generation glasses are reported to be display-free, relying instead on cameras, microphones, and speakers to enable features such as photo and video capture, phone calls, music playback, and voice-controlled assistance through Siri. Turn-by-turn walking directions are also expected to be part of the feature set.

Bloomberg also reported that Apple is testing multiple design approaches, including Wayfarer-style rectangular frames and smaller round options, with color variants such as black, light brown, and blue under consideration. Camera modules are said to be integrated into the frame design, with vertically oriented oval housings being explored.

More advanced augmented reality capabilities are not expected in the initial version of the product, with Bloomberg indicating that true AR glasses remain further out in Apple’s roadmap.
