Imugene managing director and CEO Leslie Chong talked with Proactive about the company's successful presentation of Azer-Cel clinical data at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference in Chicago.
Imugene's participation at ASCO marked a significant milestone, with the company securing an oral presentation slot from among thousands of submissions. Chong explained that hundreds of attendees joined the session, with standing-room-only attendance and strong engagement during the question-and-answer session.
The presentation focused on data from Imugene's CAR-T naïve cohort, which includes patients with blood cancers who have not previously received approved CAR-T therapies. The study is evaluating Azer-Cel across several niche indications, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), marginal zone lymphoma and Waldenström macroglobulinemia.
Chong said the level of interest from physicians, oncologists, investors and pharmaceutical company representatives reflected growing attention on the study's progress. Looking ahead, Imugene plans to continue enrolling patients and following existing participants while also advancing a concurrent combination study with BTK inhibitors, a class of medicines that serves a multi-billion-dollar market.
