EnergyPathways PLC (AIM:EPP) has brought in veteran geoscientist and energy systems adviser Martyn Millwood Hargrave to support development of its MESH energy storage project, a scheme the company says is expected to be Britain’s largest integrated energy storage project.
Millwood Hargrave has been appointed Chief Scientific Adviser to the CEO and board, with a remit covering technical, strategic and policy development linked to MESH and the company’s broader ambitions in integrated energy, hydrogen and industrial materials.
MESH, located in the Irish Sea and connected into Barrow-in-Furness, combines compressed air electrical storage with natural gas and hydrogen storage. EnergyPathways said the project uses large-scale subsea storage and is designed to store energy in a cost-effective way.
The company said MESH has been designated a project of “national significance” by the UK Government and could also produce synthetic graphite, a critical mineral used in civil nuclear, defence and battery applications.
Millwood Hargrave has more than 40 years’ experience across subsurface technology, energy systems and industrial innovation. He founded Ikon Science, the subsurface software company acquired by Constellation Software in 2025, and is currently a Visiting Professor in Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford and a Senior Associate at Oxford Net Zero.
