ATOME ticks an important box as Villeta fertiliser project advances

ATOME PLC (AIM:ATOM) has selected Sungrow Hydrogen as electrolyser supplier for its flagship Villeta low-carbon fertiliser project in Paraguay, locking in a key technology partner for the 260,000-tonne-per-year development.

The AIM-listed company said Villeta will use 110MW of Sungrow’s alkaline electrolyser technology, powered entirely by renewable baseload hydropower from the Itaipu Dam, to produce the green hydrogen needed for low-carbon Calcium Ammonium Nitrate fertiliser.

Sungrow was selected after a competitive tender process run by ATOME’s engineering, procurement and construction partner for the project.

The supply arrangement will be backed by a Long-Term Service Agreement covering maintenance support for the equipment.

ATOME said the appointment marks the start of what both companies expect to be a longer-term strategic partnership, with further cooperation on other projects already under discussion.

The Villeta project benefits from a 125MW renewable power purchase agreement, a 30-hectare site in a tax-free zone, a 10-year offtake agreement with Yara International, and a US$465 million fixed-price EPC contract with Casale.

ATOME declared an unconditional final investment decision in May 2026 after completing US$665 million of project finance, with construction due to begin in 2026.
