Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s latest AI-focused advertising and commerce announcements could help accelerate search monetization and deepen the company’s role in online commerce, according to Bank of America analysts following Google’s 2026 Marketing Live event.
At the event, Google introduced a range of new AI-powered advertising products and shopping tools aimed at marketers, including conversational AI answer ads, Direct Offers, AI-powered Shopping Ads and retailer-connected commerce ads.
Bank of America wrote in a note that the new products are designed to monetize the growing shift toward AI-driven search experiences.
“New AI-focused ad formats should help capitalize on growing AI search format usage (1 billion users of AI Mode) and could accelerate Search monetization,” the analysts wrote.
The firm highlighted Google’s broader rollout of AI Max advertising campaigns, which management said deliver 27% more conversions than manual campaigns.
According to the analysts, broader adoption of AI Max “should improve conversion efficiency and help drive incremental ad spend.”
They also pointed to Google’s growing focus on “agentic” advertising tools that allow users to interact directly with businesses through AI-powered workflows.
Among the announcements was “Business Agent for Leads,” which enables users to engage with advertiser agents through AI prompts and pre-filled lead generation flows. Google also expanded Demand Gen ads into Google Maps.
“Agentic ad formats reflect Google's broader push to move from traffic acquisition toward facilitating more transactions and customer actions directly within Search,” Bank of America wrote.
The analysts added that Maps advertising initiatives “could help finally unlock revenues from heavy Maps usage.”
Bank of America also highlighted Google’s expanding push into commerce through its Universal Commerce Protocol, or UCP, which is intended to support AI-powered transactions across verticals including retail, food delivery and travel.
The company introduced native checkout within AI search ads using Google Pay, allowing users to complete purchases without leaving the search page. Google said similar “Buy Now” functionality will expand to YouTube shopping ads.
“Native checkout capabilities could reduce friction between discovery and purchase, aiding conversion rates and allowing Google to capture greater value from eCommerce activity,” the analysts wrote.
Further, the bank’s analysts highlight YouTube’s monetization opportunity as Google integrates more AI-powered search and shopping capabilities into the platform.
Google said YouTube Shorts now reaches more than 2 billion users, while the broader YouTube platform has over 3 billion users globally.
The company introduced new shoppable video formats, expanded product feed integrations and launched “Ask YouTube,” a conversational AI search feature aimed at improving content discovery and commercial intent.
“YouTube has low ad monetization vs Meta apps, and Ask YouTube and expanded shopping integrations could increase discovery and transactions on YouTube, boosting monetization,” Bank of America wrote.
