Provaris Energy managing director and CEO Martin Carolan talked with Proactive about Germany’s implementation of the EU Renewable Energy Directive III (RED III) and how the new legislation could accelerate demand for imported green hydrogen across Europe.
Carolan explained that Germany’s new framework effectively turns green hydrogen demand into a legal obligation for the transport sector, creating significant opportunities for hydrogen suppliers and infrastructure developers. He noted that mandated targets are expected to rise substantially, from initial volumes in 2026 to approximately 250,000 tonnes by 2030 and 1.6 million tonnes by 2040.
“There's a clear shortfall of volume and that needs to be met through imports,” Carolan said.
Carolan outlined how Provaris continues advancing its hydrogen and CO2 infrastructure programs, including vessel development work with partners and ongoing tank certification activities.
