Orbminco Ltd (ASX:OB1) will begin a 27-hole reverse circulation drilling program in late May at its 100%-owned Majestic North Gold Project, 65 kilometres southeast of Kalgoorlie in WA’s Eastern Goldfields.
The 2,500-metre program is designed to advance resource development and exploration targeting across the shallow gold system.
The campaign has 3 main objectives.
The first is resource development, with a 10-hole, 540-metre vertical infill program targeting Inferred material within the shallow optimised pit shell at Majestic North. This work is aimed at upgrading parts of the resource to Indicated status, improving grade confidence and tightening assumptions within the current pit shell.
The second objective is to test four interpreted structural junctions believed to control higher-grade gold mineralisation. These junctions occur where north-south and east-west corridors intersect, with the east-west structures thought to have acted as pathways for gold-bearing fluids. The 16-hole program will be the first direct test of these steeply dipping structures and could extend the higher-grade 2.4 g/t gold domain along strike.
The third objective is to look below the supergene-enriched horizons for a potential primary gold source. One deeper hole will test the Archean basement beneath the current resource, where Orbminco is looking for evidence of the primary mineralised system that may have fed the near-surface gold enrichment.
Majestic North currently hosts a JORC resource of 1.38 million tonnes at 1.14 g/t gold for about 50,400 ounces, including a higher-grade domain of 249,000 tonnes at 2.42 g/t for around 19,300 ounces.
The company believes the shallow supergene system may be linked to a primary gold source at depth.
“This expanded drilling program is designed to deliver three key outcomes at Majestic North. The first two focus on increasing geological confidence within the existing Mineral Resource through infill drilling of the high-grade domain and targeted testing of the four structural junctions that are interpreted to control higher-grade mineralisation. Success in these areas has the potential to improve resource classification, grade continuity and overall project understanding," Orbminco chairman Duncan Gordon said.
"In addition, we are very excited to undertake an initial test of the potential primary mineralisation beneath the current supergene resource. Supergene systems of this type in the Eastern Goldfields are commonly associated with a primary source at depth and have not yet been tested at Majestic North. This program represents our first steps towards targeting basement geology with any positive results expected to guide the next phase of exploration targeting within the underlying basement.”
What comes next
The program is expected to take about two weeks from rig mobilisation, with assay results expected from late July 2026.
Results will be used to guide any follow-up basement drilling and may support an updated mineral resource estimate in the second half of 2026, as well as Stage 1 mining studies under Orbminco’s mine development strategy.
