Purepoint Uranium CEO talks uranium exploration strategy - ICYMI

Purepoint Uranium Group Inc (TSX-V:PTU, OTCQX:PTUUF, FRA:P5X0) CEO Chris Frostad talked with Proactive about how the company approaches uranium drill targeting and why detailed geological analysis is critical before committing to costly drilling campaigns.

Frostad explained that successful uranium exploration in Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin depends on identifying large-scale structural systems rather than simply drilling isolated conductors.

He said Purepoint Uranium Group uses extensive geophysics, mapping, geological interpretation and MobileMT surveys to build layered datasets before prioritizing drill targets.

Discussing the company’s Dorado project, Frostad described how the team evaluates geological complexity, structural movement, graphitic conductors and rock contacts to determine where uranium-bearing systems may exist. He emphasized that drilling is used to validate geological theories and improve understanding of the broader mineralized system.

Proactive: Welcome back inside our Proactive newsroom. Joining me now is Chris Frostad, CEO of Purepoint Uranium Group. Chris, it’s great to see you again.

Chris Frostad: Very good. Thank you. Good to see you.

We recently talked about drilling plans at your project, and this is a good opportunity to give viewers insight into how drilling decisions are made. Drilling is a key moment for a company because it involves significant spending. How do you determine when you’re ready to drill?

I’m the last guy that gets to say “drill there.” It’s very important to understand your targeting and spend enough time understanding it before drilling a hole. Most holes drilled in the Basin come up with very little uranium, so you have to be careful where you’re drilling and what your expectations are.

That’s why we start with geophysics, mapping and drilling as part of the identification process. What we’re really looking for are large-scale structural systems. You’re not just trying to poke a hole into uranium and say you won. You need to understand the broader system before spending the money required to drill.

Let’s talk about Dorado. You’ve done a lot of work there already, including modeling and MobileMT surveys. What are you looking for before taking the next step?

MobileMT is one of many tools we use to look at depth. Exploration companies often talk about graphitic conductors, but finding a conductor alone isn’t enough.

We’re looking for systems involving structural complexity. We look for granite against softer rocks, faults, graphite and overall geology. You need to understand whether the area is capable of hosting a major mineralized system.

When we drill, we’re testing an existing theory. The drill hole validates structure, rock types and geological pathways. Hopefully, you also encounter mineralization connected to the system.

The MobileMT work gives us another layer of detailed data that helps ensure we’re drilling in the right place.

I imagine you find many different systems on a large project. How do you decide which targets deserve spending?

At Dorado, we’ve probably identified about a dozen areas worthy of drilling. Then you prioritize based on the amount of work completed and what previous drilling has shown.

Once you drill a hole and see alteration, structure or rock movement, it can become a higher-priority area. It’s a constant process of reprioritizing targets.

Some companies identify dozens of targets but can’t drill all of them because of the cost. What makes a target compelling enough to pursue?

One factor is whether mineralization has been found nearby. But it’s really about combining indicators.

It’s not just about a conductor because conductors can run for kilometres. You focus on bends, geological changes and anomalies that suggest disruption or movement.

It’s the layering of data gathered over time that helps prioritize drill targets.

A good example for us is Tabbernor, a massive system where we recently drilled four holes to better understand the geology and how it changes along the structure.

As we wrap up, it sounds like Dorado is shaping up for another round of drilling.

The follow-up work on the Nova discovery is now well understood because we’ve completed drilling and defined those targets well.

We’re also running another MobileMT survey across the project. Now that we’ve assembled multiple projects together, we can see how the geology associated with IsoEnergy’s Hurricane deposit continues through the area.

Applying this technique gives us a deeper and clearer understanding, which may help us reprioritize targets if needed. We’re going to get a much clearer look at what’s down there.
