Far East Gold Ltd (ASX:FEG) earlier this week reported an updated independent Inferred JORC Mineral Resource Estimate for its Idenburg Gold Project, increasing the resource to 7.8 million tonnes at 3.1 g/t gold for a total of 780,000 ounces.
Chief executive Shane Menere said the update marked a “material step change for the project,” noting that the company had grown the resource from zero to 540,000 ounces and now to 780,000 ounces. He explained that much of this growth had been driven by drilling at a single prospect, which demonstrated both scale and geological continuity across the system.
Menere indicated that the project is now reaching a level of scale that is increasingly relevant to the broader market, particularly as much of the surrounding project area remains largely untested. He added that the company continues to see strong potential for further resource growth as exploration progresses.
Alongside exploration success, Far East Gold is advancing the project towards development. Menere highlighted that metallurgical work had delivered strong recoveries using conventional processing methods, describing this as a key de-risking factor. He also pointed to progress in permitting, including forestry classification in Indonesia, as an important step in enabling project advancement.
The company has commenced a scoping study, which Menere said is expected to be completed within four to six weeks. This study is set to provide initial insights into the potential development pathway and economic profile of the project.
Menere stated that “all the major value drivers are now in play at the same time,” including resource growth, technical studies, permitting progress and exploration upside. He emphasised that the company is transitioning from a pure exploration focus to actively advancing a project towards development.
With a growing resource base approaching 800,000 ounces and a largely untested district offering additional upside, Far East Gold appears well positioned to deliver continued news flow. Upcoming catalysts include the release of the scoping study, further drilling results and ongoing technical advancements, all of which could contribute to enhancing the project’s overall value proposition.

Proactive: Far East Gold has just released an updated independent Inferred Mineral Resource estimate of 7.8 million tonnes at an average grade of 3.1 g/t gold, representing 780,000 ounces at the company’s gold project. Here to discuss is Shane Menere. Shane, good to have you back.
Shane Menere: Good to be here, Jonathan. Thanks for having me. It’s a pleasure, as always.
Proactive: Let’s talk about this 44% increase in the resource. It’s a strong result, so what does this update really tell the market about the project?
Shane Menere: It’s a material step change for the project. We’ve grown our resource from zero to 540,000 ounces and now to 780,000 ounces. Importantly, that has come primarily from drilling at one prospect. We’re demonstrating not just growth, but a system with real scale and continuity. We’ve now moved into a category that is relevant on a broader stage, especially considering most of the project area remains largely untested.
Proactive: Part of that growth curve is the move into development alongside exploration. Talk us through that transition.
Shane Menere: We’ve defined a meaningful resource and now have the technical and permitting foundations in place to move forward. Metallurgical work shows strong recoveries using conventional processing, which is a key de-risking factor. Permitting has advanced, including forestry classification in Indonesia. With the scoping study underway, we’re shaping what the project could look like from a development perspective.
Proactive: Can you talk us through the scoping study timeline?
Shane Menere: It’s early days, but we’ve progressed quickly. We’re hoping to deliver it within a month to six weeks. The geology upgrade is a key input, and that’s coming soon.
Proactive: What should investors focus on from here?
Shane Menere: All major value drivers are now in play. We have a growing resource base, strong metallurgy, permitting progress, and a clear development pathway. At the same time, there’s significant exploration upside in a largely untested district. Investors should expect consistent news flow as we continue to advance both exploration and technical studies.
Proactive: Shane, thanks for your time.
Shane Menere: Thanks, Jonathan. Appreciate it.
