Phunware advances AI Concierge to commercial release, eyes hospitality growth

Phunware Inc (NASDAQ:PHUN, FRA:2RJA), the enterprise mobile cloud platform, is positioning itself for a new phase of commercial growth after launching its AI Concierge product and restructuring its hospitality portfolio into two purpose-built tiers, the company said Thursday.

The moves come as Phunware reported first-quarter results for the period ended March 31, 2026, with gross margin climbing to 70.8% from 52.2% in the year-ago period and net loss narrowing to $3.2 million from $3.7 million.

The company ended the quarter with approximately $98 million in cash and no debt, providing significant runway to fund research and development, intellectual property, and potential acquisitions, according to Jeremy Krol, interim CEO of Phunware.

Phunware's AI Concierge module has reached commercial availability, combining generative AI with proprietary indoor mapping to deliver real-time wayfinding and context-aware responses for hotel guests.

The firm also launched two hospitality product tiers: Luxury Engagement, offering fully personalized digital guest experiences built on its wayfinding technology, and Enriched Experience, designed to surface on-property services and amenities to drive ancillary revenue for operators.

"By anticipating guest needs and reducing friction at every guest touchpoint, mobile engagements shift the guest experience from reactive to proactive, while growing revenue per guest," Krol said in a statement.

Krol described the fusion of spatial intelligence and conversational AI as a meaningful competitive differentiator, adding that the company is actively selling the module to both new and existing customers.

Looking ahead, Phunware said it is rebuilding its commercial engine around the newly productized portfolio, with planned investment in sales leadership and modernized demand generation.

While hospitality remains the primary commercial focus, the company said it continues to serve healthcare customers and views that vertical as informing its broader product roadmap, with ambitions to expand into additional large-property verticals.

Net revenue for the first quarter was $0.5 million compared to $0.7 million a year earlier, reflecting the company's focus on product development over near-term bookings. Net cash used in operations declined to $2.7 million from $3.3 million in the prior-year period.

Phunware said it expects bookings momentum to build throughout 2026 as its rebuilt commercial function and productized portfolio come together.
