Arm slides as investors question near-term monetization of AI demand

Arm Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:ARM)'s fiscal fourth-quarter and June-quarter results were roughly in line with expectations, but the stock fell over 11% on Thursday as investors weigh the gap between strong enthusiasm for its AI opportunity and the more limited near-term execution, according to Bank of America analysts.

BofA's core takeaway is that the agentic CPU growth story is real, but it's likely already baked into the stock price.

Data center revenue grew more than 100% year-over-year, and Arm now claims 50% share across cloud servers. Royalty content per chip is rising, and demand for Arm's AGI CPU has roughly doubled in the past six weeks to around $2 billion.

The problem is that management held its near-term royalty and chip outlook unchanged despite that surge in demand, citing supply constraints across wafers, substrates, memory and packaging, analysts noted.

In other words, Arm can't fully capitalize on the demand spike, and investors were left without an upside catalyst.

The other key overhang is Arm's market share target. Management reiterated its goal of capturing 15% of the AGI CPU market by fiscal 2031, a figure BofA calls ambitious. The bank models a more modest 5% to 7% share, pointing to intensifying competition from both x86 and custom Arm-based chip designs, as well as the fact that Arm's largest potential customers — Meta, OpenAI and others — already have multi-sourcing agreements with multiple CPU vendors, limiting Arm's pricing power and exclusivity.

BofA did nudge its fiscal 2026–27 estimates slightly higher on the improving CPU content outlook, and raised its price objective to $245 from $180. But the bank kept its Neutral rating, saying it wants to see more concrete evidence of AGI CPU traction before turning more constructive.

At roughly 69x calendar-year 2028 earnings, the stock is pricing in a successful transformation to a mixed IP-and-chip company and leaving little room for the execution risks BofA still sees as meaningful.
