IP Group appoints former 3i chief as incoming chair

IP Group PLC (LSE:IPO), the LSE-listed science and technology investor, has appointed Michael Queen as non-executive director and chair designate, concluding a succession process announced last year.

Queen will take over as chair following the company's annual general meeting on 18 June 2026, when Sir Douglas Flint retires from the board after nearly eight years of service.

Queen was formerly chief executive of 3i Group, the global investment company, where he spent 25 years and founded 3i Infrastructure plc before retiring in 2012.

He currently chairs Coller Capital, a UK-based international private equity group, and Thames Tideway Tunnel, and serves as pro-chancellor of the University of Surrey and non-executive director of TAQA, a Middle East industrial group.

Chief executive Greg Smith said Queen's track record in scaling institutional capital platforms aligned closely with IP Group's strategy of growing funds under management and supporting its portfolio companies through their next phase of development.

Queen described IP Group as a "nationally significant platform" and said he looked forward to helping deliver value for stakeholders as the group scales its model.

Flint said Queen's knowledge of private markets, venture investment and the UK university sector would be valuable as the group works to realise and refresh its portfolio.
