Solvonis chief scientist to address NIH addiction research forum

Solvonis Therapeutics PLC (LSE:SVNS), the London-listed biopharmaceutical company focused on central nervous system disorders, has announced that its chief scientific officer will speak at a major US federal addiction research meeting.

Professor David Nutt is scheduled to address the 14th Joint Meeting of the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the National Cancer Advisory Board and the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse, taking place on 6 May 2026.

The meeting is convened through CRAN, the Collaborative Research on Addiction at NIH (National Institutes of Health), the cross-institute partnership through which three principal US federal bodies coordinate addiction-related research.

Professor Nutt is the sole external speaker at the public session, appearing alongside senior figures including Dr Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and Dr George Koob, director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

His presentation is expected to focus on psychedelic therapy for addictions, a field directly relevant to Solvonis' pipeline of addiction and psychiatric treatments.

The company's programmes include SVN-001, a late-stage ketamine-assisted therapy for severe alcohol use disorder currently in a UK Phase 3 study, and SVN-002, a US-focused esketamine oral thin film programme for moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder.

A third programme, SVN-015, targeting stimulant-use disorders at preclinical stage, has been selected for evaluation through NIDA's Addiction Treatment Discovery Program.

Chief executive Anthony Tennyson said: "Professor Nutt's participation as the sole external academic speaker listed for the public session reflects his international standing in addiction neuroscience, neuropsychopharmacology and psychedelic-assisted therapy.

"For Solvonis, this is highly relevant. We are a UK-listed CNS biopharmaceutical company advancing programmes across Alcohol Use Disorder, addiction and psychiatry, including a NIDA-linked preclinical programme in stimulant-use disorders.

"This does not imply endorsement of Solvonis or its programmes by NIH, NIDA, NIAAA or NCI. It does, however, underline that the scientific themes central to our strategy are being discussed at the highest levels of the U.S. addiction-research community."
