Alkane Resources: strong quarter, growth ahead - ICYMI

Alkane Resources Ltd (ASX:ALK, OTC:ALKEF) earlier this week reported record quarterly production and strong cash generation, highlighting the company’s operational momentum following its recent expansion and inclusion in the ASX 200 index.

Managing director Nic Earner said the March quarter delivered more than 45,000 ounces of gold equivalent production across the company’s three producing assets, marking its strongest quarterly performance to date. He noted that the company generated more than A$130 million in cash after capital expenditure, tax and hedge deliveries, describing it as a “fantastic quarter.”

Earner indicated that Alkane Resources Ltd remains on track to meet its full-year production guidance of between 160,000 and 175,000 ounces, with performance trending toward the midpoint of that range. He added that operating costs were holding at the upper end of guidance despite ongoing global volatility.

The company’s inclusion in the ASX 200 index followed a sustained period of market capitalisation above A$2 billion, a development Earner suggested would enhance market visibility and investor engagement.

Operationally, Alkane Resources Ltd continues to advance multiple initiatives across its portfolio. At Tomingley, the company is managing a significant infrastructure project involving the diversion of a major highway. At Costerfield, exploration remains a key focus, with ongoing drilling aimed at expanding reserves and extending mine life. Meanwhile, at Bjorkdal in Sweden, the company is implementing measures to increase production and improve cost efficiency.

Earner also highlighted broader industry challenges, including rising input costs and supply chain uncertainty, noting that while current supply chains remain stable, future impacts are difficult to forecast. He pointed to increases in consumable costs as an emerging pressure point across the sector.

Despite these uncertainties, Earner emphasised the company’s strong financial position, stating that “our cash generation is very, very strong,” even in a flat gold price environment. He suggested that Alkane Resources Ltd is trading at a discount to its ASX 200 peers despite delivering competitive, and in some cases superior, cash flow metrics.

This combination of strong operational performance, disciplined cost management and ongoing exploration upside positions Alkane Resources Ltd as a company with multiple near-term catalysts, including production growth, reserve expansion and potential re-rating as market conditions stabilise.

Proactive: Welcome back to Proactive Investors. I'm your host, Kerry Stevenson. I've asked Nic Earner, Managing Director of Alkane Resources, to join us following a strong quarterly update. The company has three producing assets: Costerfield in Victoria, Tomingley in New South Wales and Bjorkdal in Sweden. Can you give us an update on the numbers and outlook?

Nic Earner: Thanks, Kerry. We’ve just released our March quarter results and it was a fantastic quarter. Across the three assets, we delivered over 45,000 ounces of gold equivalent production. We also generated more than A$130 million in cash after capital expenditure, tax and hedge deliveries. It was a really solid result.

Proactive: The company has also been added to the ASX 200. How significant is that?

Nic Earner: Our market capitalisation has been consistently above A$2 billion, which supported our inclusion. It only took effect recently, so we’ll start to see the benefits flow through.

Proactive: Are you still on track with guidance?

Nic Earner: Yes, we haven’t changed our guidance. We’re targeting between 160,000 and 175,000 ounces for the year and are tracking toward the midpoint. Costs are holding at the top end of guidance despite global volatility.

Proactive: What are the biggest challenges across your operations?

Nic Earner: It varies by site. At Tomingley, we’re managing a major highway diversion project. At Costerfield, we’re focused on expanding reserves through exploration. At Bjorkdal, we’re working to increase production and reduce costs. We’re also managing broader cost pressures and supply chain uncertainties globally.

Proactive: Have fuel and logistics created challenges?

Nic Earner: Fortunately, all our operations are grid-connected, which reduces reliance on diesel. Supply chains have remained stable so far, but future cost impacts are difficult to predict.

Proactive: Why should investors take notice of Alkane Resources now?

Nic Earner: Even with flat gold prices, our cash generation is very strong. We trade at a discount to ASX 200 peers while delivering strong cash flow and asset quality. That represents a compelling opportunity.
