AtaiBeckley Inc. (NASDAQ:ATAI, XETRA:9VC) said on Monday it had received the Silver Award in OVID Health’s 2026 Patient Participant Index, recognizing its collaboration with the Psychedelic Participant Advocacy Network (PsyPAN) to strengthen participant involvement in psychedelic clinical research.
The clinical-stage biotechnology company said the award highlights a multiyear partnership aimed at incorporating the lived experiences of clinical trial participants into the development of mental health treatments.
The company, which is developing rapid-acting mental health therapies, said the collaboration began in 2023 when Beckley Psytech, now part of AtaiBeckley, worked with PsyPAN to design a series of qualitative workshops examining participant experiences before, during and after psychedelic clinical trials.
Insights from those workshops were compiled into a white paper titled “The Participants in Their Own Words” and were later presented at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research in 2024.
Following the findings, Beckley Psytech provided PsyPAN with an unrestricted grant to support a 12-month independent peer-support pilot program in 2025 for UK participants from any psychedelic clinical trial, regardless of sponsor.
AtaiBeckley said the partnership has since expanded to include international patient advocacy groups as well as academic collaborators at King’s College London and the University of Exeter.
PsyPAN said the collaboration showed the importance of involving former trial participants in ensuring psychedelic research remains ethical, safe and responsive to patients.
“Former trial participants bring essential lived experience expertise that helps ensure research and treatment development remain ethical, safe, and responsive to those most affected,” the group said in a statement.
Kevin Craig, chief medical officer at AtaiBeckley, said participant feedback was critical as new mental health treatments move through clinical development.
“Our collaboration with PsyPAN demonstrates how participant voice can strengthen both the science and participant’s experience of clinical research,” Craig said.
The 2026 Patient Participant Index includes global biopharmaceutical organizations and assesses standards for patient partnership across healthcare innovation.
