Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has begun manufacturing its Cybercab robotaxi, according to CEO Elon Musk, marking a key milestone in the company’s effort to expand into autonomous ride-hailing services amid a broader slowdown in electric vehicle demand.
Musk said on Friday via the social media platform X that production of the Cybercab is now underway at Tesla, Inc., fulfilling earlier statements that the vehicle would enter manufacturing in 2026.
The first Cybercab came off the production line on February 18, with Tesla sharing a commemorative image at the time.
During its fourth quarter 2025 earnings call, the company revised its production timeline, shifting initial manufacturing plans into 2026. In its first-quarter 2026 update, Tesla said it expected “volume production of both Cybercab and the Tesla Semi” later in the year.

Tesla previously stated that, at full scale, Cybercab production could reach as many as two million units annually, or roughly 38,000 vehicles per week.
However, early output is expected to be significantly lower, likely in the range of hundreds of units per week as production ramps up.
Shares of Tesla traded up 1.6% at about $380 on Friday morning.
