Liberty Star Uranium & Metals Corp. (OTCQB:LBSR) announced that it has staked 13 additional mineral exploration permits covering approximately 11 square miles.
The company said the expansion increases its total exploration area to about 45 square miles.
The newly staked claims are located within and around the Tombstone Mining District, a historic mining region in southeastern Arizona known for copper and gold production.
According to the company, the latest additions follow earlier claims announced on March 10, and complete what it describes as a district-scale consolidation of its exploration position.
Liberty Star Minerals said its consolidated land package includes areas associated with two operating subsidiaries: Earp Ridge Mines, LLC, which the company associates with copper, molybdenum, and other mineral targets, and Red Rock Mines, LLC, which it describes as a gold exploration target.
“Our dedicated team followed the geology wherever it led, and then we moved to protect it,” Liberty Star chairman Pete O’Heeron said in a statement.
“Forty-five square miles of multi-mineral opportunities across gold, copper, molybdenum, and critical minerals, so important to U.S. economic and national security. This positions us to attract a serious mining partner and execute our strategic plan. This is a district-scale asset in one of the best mining addresses on earth.”
The company also stated that the expanded footprint positions it for potential partnership discussions and further exploration activity, as fieldwork continues and additional assay and geophysical results are expected.
According to Liberty Star, southeastern Arizona’s porphyry copper belt, where the claims are located, is part of a broader mineral-rich region that has historically supported large-scale copper, gold, and molybdenum production.
