Solvonis Therapeutics PLC (LSE:SVNS), a biopharmaceutical company developing treatments for central nervous system (CNS) disorders, has welcomed a US executive order signed by President Donald Trump as a positive signal for its sector.
Signed on 18 April and titled "Accelerating Medical Treatments for Serious Mental Illness," it sets out US policy to speed up drug approvals and expand access to psychedelic therapies for conditions including major depressive disorder and substance abuse.
Solvonis said the document does not relate directly to any of its programmes but is highly relevant to the therapeutic areas in which it operates, including addiction, PTSD and psychiatry.
The company's pipeline includes SVN-001 for severe alcohol use disorder, SVN-002 for moderate-to-severe alcohol use disorder in the United States, SVN-015 targeting stimulant addiction, and SVN-114 for PTSD.
Solvonis said it believes the order is particularly relevant to SVN-002, its US-focused programme being developed under a regulatory strategy designed to bridge to an established US esketamine framework.
SVN-015 has been accepted into the US National Institute on Drug Abuse's Addiction Treatment Discovery Program, under which the agency will fund early preclinical evaluation of the drug.
Chief executive Anthony Tennyson said the order represented "a major positive signal for the broader sector" and evidence that rapid-acting CNS and psychedelic-adjacent therapies were "gaining real momentum in the United States."
