Trillion Energy International Inc. (CSE:TCF, OTCQB:TRLEF, FRA:Z620) earlier this week reported a significant light oil discovery at the C-1 (Çetinkaya) asset in southeast Turkey, highlighting growing potential within a rapidly emerging hydrocarbon region.
President Scott Lower said the well encountered 32 API high-quality light oil across 38 metres of net pay within the Beloka and Mardin carbonate formations.
Proactive: For those not familiar, can you give us a quick refresher on Trillion?
Scott Lower: Trillion is an international oil and gas exploration company. We’ve been around for 15 years, and we recently made a very significant oil discovery in southeast Turkey that I’d like to talk about.
This was a light oil discovery at your C-1 or Çetinkaya asset. Tell me about the work behind it.
The well was drilled in Şırnak Province, southeast Turkey. It encountered 32 API light oil across 38 metres of net pay in the Beloka and Mardin carbonate formations. A full wireline logging program confirmed oil in multiple stacked zones. Simulation work showed strong results, confirming both the reservoir and the oil.
You mentioned the 38 metres of net pay, but drilling stopped early. Does that suggest more potential?
Absolutely. This well only reached roughly 30% of the targeted pay zone. There’s another couple hundred metres to drill. It’s a fractured carbonate system, which can be challenging, but there’s clearly more potential.
What are the next steps?
We plan to sidetrack the well and drill deeper to penetrate the remaining zones. The goal is to turn this into a production well.
Does this shift the company more toward oil exploration?
Yes, this will likely become our primary focus. The region is experiencing an oil rush. There are about 40 rigs operating within 10 kilometres, and production has grown from zero to over 80,000 barrels per day in just a few years.
There seems to be strong support in the region as well?
Yes. Most surrounding blocks are government-owned, and ours is the only privately owned block in the area. Over 60% of the country’s oil production is now coming from this region surrounding our block.
Finally, what’s next operationally?
We’ll release a resource report, raise funds to meet farm-in obligations, and continue drilling. At least two more wells are planned this year, along with sidetracks.
